Nivis, a global leader in Internet of Things and Industrial Wireless networking, today announced the availability of the Internet of Things Smart Object communication stack source code.
The second generation of Nivis’ Smart Object platform targets monitoring and control devices that are part of the emerging Internet of Things. The Smart Object platform was officially launched in June 2013 and has seen wide adoption in several Internet of Things segments such as Smart Grid, AMR/AMI and consumer and industrial energy consumption sub-metering. The communication stack has been extensively vetted in field deployments in North America, Europe and Southeast Asia.
The Smart Object communication stack will be packaged and offered as documented source code that will allow vendors to swiftly port it to various hardware platforms or tailor it to their product requirements.
The highly scalable platform allows for deployment of networks consisting of thousand of Smart Objects resulting in minimal infrastructure cost overhead. The secure platform is entirely standards based and offers 6lowpan and IPv6 connectivity as well as COAP based web services that reach all the way to the Smart Object endpoint.
The wireless communication is compliant to the IEEE 802.15.4g standard and operates in the sub-GHz wireless spectrum allowing for extended range even in dense urban environments. It also utilizes IEEE 802.15.4e TSCH compliant frequency diversity and time division. Combined with path diversity which is compliant to the IETF RPL routing protocol it exhibits unsurpassed reliability and robustness to interference.
“This is another significant milestone in Nivis’ strategy of enabling Smart Object vendors that are intent on becoming an integral part of the Internet of Things socio-economical transformation” said Doug Johns, CEO of Nivis.“
The Smart Object communication stack package will be offered through Nivis’ distributors.
